Behringer XR18: Playing music from the iPad and using X-Air App simultaneously

Someone asked me if it&possible to play music into the Behringer XR18, from the same iPad (with iTunes) while simultaneously running the X-Air app to mix. I usually use my 4th Generation iPad with my XR18, but it did not have music on it. So I used my 3rd Generation iPad. I may add a few songs to my 4th gen to play in between sets with my band. Anyway, use a Y cable stereo 1/8" to Left/Right RCA - connected RCA to TS Plug adapters. Pluged the 1/8" to the earphone of the iPad and the TS plugs to the 17/18 Line input of the XR18.
