Henry Busse & His Orchestra, Vocal refrazin Riuchard Barry - Thrill Me, Fox Trot (Davidson - Watkins) Victor, 1930 (USA) NOTYE: This haunting yet little known foxtrot/samba is played by Henry Busse&band - one of the best American dance orchestras of the turn of the 19020s/30s and thereafter. Born in 1894 on the family farm near Magdeburg, Germany, Henry Busse was sent to the trumpet - and the violin lessons, with intent to play in his uncle&brass band. In age of 17, Henry however gave up that career and ran away from home to embark on the ship sailing to New York. Unable to speak English, he was captured by the police when he was sleeping on the Grand Central Station, yet was left alone when he proved he was a musician looking for a job. He again embarked on the ship, sailing to California. In Hollywood, he managed to get a job as an extra at Keystone Cop movie production, he also played with a small band in the movie theatre. His frst step towards the success was engagement at the Frisco Jass Band, then with the famous Paul Whiteman&band. He stayed with Whiteman through all decade of the Roaring Twenties, and toured all of America and Europe. In Germany, Busse discovered a song written by the German composer Robert Katscher. He rearranged it in the US, and with the new lyrics written by DeSylva, it became as a great hit under the title "When Day Is Done". It made Busse famous, he established his own band, with which he performed at the trendiest night bars in the West...
