The story begins with Sonic napping. Upon awakening, he reaches to check his clock and accidentally grabbing a ring. Shahra, the Genie of the Ring, pops out of a book of the Arabian Nights and into Sonic&world. She reveals that an evil entity from her world, the world of the Arabian Nights, Erazor Djinn is absorbing the power of the book and causing its pages and the world within to disappear. He was once the Genie of the Lamp from the story of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, who was punished for misdeeds and imprisoned in his lamp until he granted the wishes of one thousand people. Erazor fulfilled his sentence, but at that point, he had gained a renewed hatred for humanity and the creator of his story for giving him such a fate. He thus began taking over the Arabian Nights, twisting the words that supported the stories into spirits that followed his command and absorbing the book&contents so he could gain absolute control of the world of Arabian Nights; his ultimate goal being to escape and make his way into Sonic&world to wreak havoc there as well.
