In early May 2019, the railfan world descended on Northern Utah to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The highlight of the festivities was the maiden voyage of Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4014, the largest steam locomotive in the world. The train&journey to and from Ogden would take it over the mighty Wasatch grade, the scenic and tough section of railroad for which the legendary 4000s were specifically designed. Not being able to dedicate the two full weeks necessary to chase all the way from Cheyenne and back, it was here on Big Boy&home turf that I focused my efforts.
