Protaetia Flower Beetle Visits Daisy Fleabane Flowers シロテンハナムグリがヒメジョオンの花で食後に飛ぶ

A white-spotted flower chafer (Protaetia orientalis submarumorea, family Scarabaeidae) visiting flower of annual fleabane (aka daisy fleabane or eastern daisy fleabane; Erigeron annuus, family Asteraceae) by the roadside to feed on nectar and pollen. As you can see in the 10x slow-motion of the takeoff, this group of beetle can fly only with hindwings. The forewings kept tightly closed while flying to reduce the air resistance. Late-June 2019 in Japan. 日本語による詳細はブログをご覧ください。 ヒメジョオンの花から食後に飛び立つシロテンハナムグリ
