The gradient leading out of the open cast pit is probably the most famous place for filming the world&last commercially operating steam locomotives, especially in the past few years since the spoil trains ceased on the west side of the mine. For a short period of time, common practice would see the loaded coal trains pause at Kengkongzhan to allow for an empty train to return from the unloading point at Xuanmeichang. The JS 2-8-2 locomotive would then start up again with around 1500 tonnes of train behind it with almost guaranteed wheel slip. 16 November 2014 - Sandaoling, Xinjiang province, China You can read more about my visit on my 2014 trip report here : If you liked this video, please send me a like and subscribe to the channel.
