Piano Lessons for Adults
Toshifumi Hinata is another great Japanese composer who is widely unknown in the West. He was musically educated in the United States, graduating from the University of Minnesota-Duluuth. His training consists of ambient, classical, and film score. "Reflections" is his best known piece, having been popularized by social media. Although it fits narrowly well into the mischievous videos, this song can be more deeply appreciated. Dissonance and obscurity run freely throughout as many chords are comprised of notes closely jammed together. This gives a heavy and austere ambience. However, the main melody stays light to contradict the bass tones. Overall, its easy to characterize this piece as "sad" at first listen, but if one listens more closely, a flux of emotions rush in. #japanesemusic
