This version of "When the Saints Go Marching In" was originally used as a performance piece option for the RGT / LCM initial stages acoustic guitar exam. The backing track has a country feel rather than the traditional jazz vibe. It&in the key of C Major and is a great example for helping beginners to contextualise the open C Major scale. “When the Saints Go Marching In” is a traditional spiritual / Christian hymn. Whilst its origins are unclear, it&thought to have evolved in the early 1900s from a number of similarly titled gospel songs. The first known recorded version was made in 1923 by the Paramount Jubilee Singers, but it went by the title “When All the Saints Go Marching in”. “When the Saints Go Marching In” has been covered by many artists over the years and is considered to be a Jazz standard. It is particularly associated with the city of New Orleans. Whilst the various versions vary slightly, the most commonly recognized version that helped to make it a Jazz Standard was recorded by Louis Armstrong and his orchestra on May 13th 1938.
