The group was founded by brothers Chad and Mike Krueger in the small Canadian town of Hannah. (The video for "Photograph" was filmed there.) Actually "Nickelback" literally means "surrender". This word appeared in the life of the group at the time when Mike Kruger was working in a cafe. A cup of coffee cost 45 cents, change from a half-dollar coin was 5 cents (in slang - "nickel"). When settling with a client, Mike often repeated the same phrase: "Here&your nickel back."
