Hello Everyone. Have a beautiful weekend. In the era of the great depression, musicals provided an escape, with a touch of romance, elegance and sophistication. And certainly Mr. Astaire and Miss. Rogers effervescent performance provided a break from those pressures. When you look at "Waltz In Swing Time" number being performed, the clean sharp lines of Mr. Astaire and Miss. Rogers including their intricate foot work, and keeping in mind the number was filmed in one take. It clearly shows the artistry and skill level that made Mr. Astaire and Miss. Choreographers: Hermes Pan. Mr. Pan explains the creative/choreography process to the dance number "Waltz In Swing Time." He and Mr. Astaire created the choreography before the music had been composed. “We wanted to do a jazz waltz, and we’d do things in rhythm. We were very excited about the idea of doing a swing waltz. So we told (Jerome) Kern about it, and he wrote a swing waltz. But I think it was very difficult for him because he didn’t really understand what we meant. I must say that Hal Borne, our rehearsal pianist all the time, had a great deal to do with it, and with adapting Kern’s music into a waltz.
