"The Ballad of Casey Jones" is a traditional American folk song inspired by the train wreck of Casey Jones. Casey Jones&real name was Johnathan Jones and was killed when his passenger train collided with a freight train in 1900. Numerous fictionalized versions of the story appeared in songs shortly afterwards, and was first published in 1909.
