"Disk check has been cancelled." Please help me!

I prefer to do a disk check about once a week, especially since my computer sometimes shuts off ungracefully after about ten minutes when I try to put it into Sleep mode. Unfortunately, this typically happens. Sometimes I&get a message that there&an error when I run chkdsk in the command program, but it won&fix the errors because it can only run the check in read-only-mode when I do it that way. Update: I found a temporary solution by running the Command Prompt in Administrator mode, then typing chkntfs /t:0 to set the scan warning timer to zero.
