Audrey Hepburn first sang Moon River, with lyrics written by Johnny Mercer, in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany&which premiered in 1961. The song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song that year. In 1962, Moon River won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Album of the Year. It went on to become the theme song for singer Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1962. Many people know this song today even though they may not have heard it for a very long time. It has long been a staple of the American popular repertoire.
