Mrs. Flacks is a woman of striking appearance and extravagant behavior. She constantly moves from town to town, dragging her two daughters with her. 9-year-old Kate dreams of becoming a swimming champion and trains in the bathtub, while 15-year-old Charlotte is obsessed with religion. After exchanging her first kiss with the guy she likes, she imagines herself to be a terrible sinner and, in desperation, is about to enter a monastery. And Mrs. Flacks falls in love with an elderly, balding shoe store owner who is ready to propose to her.
