“Arctic Security in the Current Situation”

No more than 10 years ago, during a period of intensification of international cooperation in the Arctic, Russia’s military presence in the region was seen by the Western partners not as a potential threat but rather as a contribution to finding a joint solution for common security issues. However, the recently intensified confrontation between Russia and the West has changed the situation in the North by increasing the regional conflict potential. In the meantime, the security issues that have been and still are typical for the region include the issues of adjusting to the climate changes and growing economic development, ensuring security of navigation, as well as dealing with accumulated ecological damage.
